Isaac will now step down as chairman of New Zealand Cricket.
"Alan Isaac's nomination for the role of ICC vice president was unanimously endorsed by the ICC executive board and the full ICC council ... has also approved the recommendation," ICC president Sharad Pawar said in a statement.
"I am looking forward to working with Alan as we now set out to continue improving the ICC's image and reputation." Isaac's focus will be on the scheduling of the Future Tours Program — the ICC's calendar of international cricket — ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.
"I am looking forward to working with him and I know that together with Sharad Pawar they will look to enhance the international game as well as the unity that exists within the game," Lorgat said.
Isaac succeeded John Anderson as chairman of New Zealand Cricket in 2008 and is a former chairman of the New Zealand division of global accounting firm KPMG.
Isaac was a left-handed batsman who also captained the second team of Wellington.
