Opened in Istanbul at Sultan Ahmed Square between Sultan Ahmed Mosque and Aya Sophia Museum, the exhibition has been organized in cooperation with ALJ Community Initiatives and the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilization (FSTC).
Upon arrival at the event, Erdogan was welcomed by Jameel and FSTC and 1001 Inventions Chairman Salim Al-Hassani. Al-Hassani highlighted the importance of opening the exhibition in Turkey. In his speech, Jameel thanked the prime minister for inaugurating the exhibition.
“1001 Inventions is a global educational initiative that promotes awareness of 1,000 years of scientific and cultural achievements of Muslim civilizations from the 7th century onwards and shows these contributions helped the foundations of our modern world, and how they continue to touch all of our lives today,” he said.
The exhibition opened in January at the Science Museum in London and was visited by thousands. The president of ALJ Community Initiatives announced that the exhibition will move to the United States to start a one-year tour in several states. There are plans for the exhibition to move to other venues in Europe and the Middle East. More than four million viewers have already watched the movie accompanying the exhibition.
“We believe in the importance of cooperation between the private and government sectors in the area of community development. That is why ALJ Community Initiatives is working to present a successful corporate social responsibility model in all countries where ALJ is operational. With that in mind, we hope to bring two more exhibitions to Istanbul soon,” said Fadi Mohammed Jameel, president of ALJ Community Initiatives International and deputy chairman of Toyota Turkey.
The opening ribbon was cut in presence of senior officials, after which the visitors toured the exhibition. More than 4,000 visitors flocked to the exhibition.
