Duensing (7-1) allowed one run and seven hits to improve to 4-0 since moving into the starting rotation July 23. His ERA dropped to 1.92 as the Twins bounced back from an 11-0 loss to the White Sox on Thursday night.
Dan Haren (1-4) got knocked around in his sixth start for the Angels. He gave up seven runs and 11 hits in seven innings.
Howie Kendrick had three hits for the Angels (61-62), who fell back below .500 and are 6-18 in their last 24 road games.
The game marked Torii Hunter’s first trip to Target Field. He spent 11 years playing for the Twins in the Metrodome before signing a $96 million contract with the Angels before the 2008 season.
Hunter raved about the Twins’ new home before the game and said he got a little emotional while Twins manager Ron Gardenhire gave him a tour of the place.
Mariners 6 Yankees 0: At New York, Felix Hernandez nearly became the first pitcher in more than 25 years to throw four straight complete games against the New York Yankees, and Russell Branyan hit a pair of homers off A.J. Burnett and drove in four runs to lead Seattle.
Hernandez (9-10) kept New York off-kilter for eight innings, allowing four hits and striking out 11. He was lifted after 117 pitches for Garrett Olson , who pitched a perfect ninth to help the Mariners win their third in a row and improve to 7-3 under interim manager Daren Brown.
Alex Rodriguez returned to the Yankees’ lineup as the designated hitter after missing three games because of a strained left calf but was pulled after one at-bat.
Athletics 5 Rays 4: At Oakland, California, Kevin Kouzmanoff scored the go-ahead run on second baseman Ben Zobrist’s fielding error with two outs in the eighth inning, and Oakland beat Tampa Bay for its second straight one-run victory in the series.
Rajai Davis hit a tying sacrifice fly in the eighth, then Cliff Pennington hit a grounder to second and wound up part of the decisive play for the third straight game.
Tampa Bay missed a chance to move into a first-place tie with the Yankees in the AL East. The Rays lost a late lead for the second night in a row.
Henry Rodriguez (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth for his first major league win. Joaquin Benoit (0-2) allowed two runs, one earned, and took the loss.
Jack Cust hit a solo homer for Oakland to tie it at 3 in the sixth before Zobrist’s go-ahead solo shot in the seventh. But the Rays’ bullpen couldn’t hold a one-run lead that would have given rookie Jeremy Hellickson a win in his fourth straight start to begin his career.
Blue Jays 16 Red Sox 2: At Boston, Lyle Overbay hit two homers and drove in a career-high seven runs as Toronto battered All-Star pitcher Jon Lester on a miserable day for Boston.
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia returned to the disabled list with soreness in the foot he broke in late June, a difficult blow for Boston as it chases a postseason spot.
Overbay’s second homer chased Lester (13-8) after two-plus innings. He allowed eight hits, three walks and nine runs. His previous low came against Tampa Bay last season when gave up eight runs in 4 1-3 innings.
It was the ninth multihomer game of Overbay’s career and second this season. He was 4 for 5.
Jose Bautista hit his major league-leading 38th homer and John McDonald also connected for the Blue Jays. John Buck , activated from the DL before the game, was 4 for 5 with two RBIs and four runs.
It was the most runs given up by the Red Sox this season.
Tigers 6  Indians 0: At Detroit,  Armando Galarraga dominated Cleveland again, pitching three-hit ball for seven innings to lead Detroit.
Facing the Indians for the first time since his near-perfect game June 2, Galarraga started just as quickly this time. He retired his first 14 hitters before Jayson Nix’s double just over the glove of left fielder Don Kelly .
Until that point, Galarraga had retired 41 of the 42 Cleveland batters he faced this season. The only one to reach base had been Jason Donald , incorrectly called safe by first-base umpire Jim Joyce on what would have been the 27th out of Galarraga’s perfect game.
After Nix’s hit, Galarraga (4-5) received a loud ovation from the crowd of 33,936. He matched a career high with eight strikeouts.
The right-hander went 1-4 with a 5.12 ERA in 12 starts between the two outings against Cleveland.
Rangers 2 Orioles 0: At Baltimore, C.J. Wilson took a two-hitter into the ninth inning and had a career-high 12 strikeouts to carry Texas past Baltimore.
Wilson (12-5) retired 16 straight batters until Brian Roberts led off the ninth with a double. Before that, the only two hits against the left-hander were by Julio Lugo — a first-inning single and a double in the third.
Rangers manager Ron Washington pulled Wilson with two outs in the ninth and Roberts on third. Neftali Feliz retired pinch-hitter Luke Scott on a foul pop for his 30th save, the first for Texas in August.
Mitch Moreland homered off Jake Arrieta (4-5) and Josh Hamilton had two hits and an RBI for the Rangers, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Texas also ended a season-high tying six-game road skid.
Wilson struck out every Baltimore starter at least once in surpassing his previous career high of 10. Nick Markakis and Orioles manager Buck Showalter were ejected. The defeat dropped Baltimore’s record under Showalter to 11-7.
