In the southern city of Jazan, police reported that a Yemeni man climbed the walls of Al-Saleh Entertainment Center looking for his wife and, upon seeing her, he attacked her with an ax. The woman survived the assault, but lost a lot of blood from her head wound. The man also injured two children, 12 and 4, before being detained by a fair-goers and handed over to police.
In Riyadh, the police announced on Sunday that 35 men identified as “Asian” were arrested at a rest house for drinking alcohol and making long-distance telephone connections using illegal equipment to make the calls for free. A dozen bottles of local moonshine (known as arack) were found in the men’s possession.
In Jeddah, one Bangladeshi man was killed and the other seriously injured after a botched kidnapping and armed robbery committed by two Saudis posing as immigration police.
Jeddah police spokesman Col. Misfer Al-Juaid said the suspects claimed they were detaining the two men and then drove them out of town to robe them of their belongings. When they refused, one of the men pulled out a gun and shot the two victims. The man who survived the shooting quickly managed to find help and police arrested the first suspect 25 minutes after the shooting. The Saudi suspect then led police to where his accomplice was hiding nearby.
In Makkah, police had to intervene to end a fight on the first day of Eid between a number of customers and the workers at a kitchen who failed to prepare the food they asked for to entertain their guests whom they invited for lunch. According to the Makkah police, the few workers in the kitchen were not able to meet the demands of all customers.
A car accident on the Makkah-Madinah Expressway on Sunday killed a Pakistani female pilgrim and injured 10 of her compatriots. They were about 80 kilometers from Madinah when driver lost control, hit a fence and flipped the vehicle.
In Makkah, a 14-year-old Saudi girl hung herself on Eid. Police said the motive was psychological stress.
