They said Auda Ahmad might be suffering from psychological disorders, especially as sex and torture were the common denominators in all of his crimes.
“The court will take this into consideration during the trial if he is found to be mentally sick,” one source said.
Meanwhile, an official from the committee that sponsors prisoners, ex-convicts and their families told Arab News that the committee would consider extending financial support to Ahmad’s wife and children if he is convicted.
“We will study the circumstances of the family and provide them with care and support after a final verdict is passed,” he said.
The official said the committee does not discriminate based on the nationalities of criminals nor the nature of their crimes.
“Under the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, the committee extends support to all needy inmates and ex-prisoners and their families regardless of their nationalities,” he added.
Ahmad was arrested after a four-year manhunt, said Madinah police spokesman Brig. Mohsen Al-Raddadi, who added that they were certain after investigations that the man was guilty.
“Investigations proved that he had killed the three women and had sex with them before ending their lives,” he said.
According to the spokesman, the suspect admitted his crimes during questioning and his confession was authenticated by a court.
Ahmad, 45, is a Yemeni national who has been living in Yanbu illegally. Detectives started suspecting him when he was caught trying to lure a housemaid in one of the markets on Sept. 1.
He told the police that he needed her to work for his family, but the housemaid said he wanted to have sex with her. Another incident that led to his arrest was when officers arrested his son for beggary. He told them that Ahmad was forcing him and his brother to beg.
The spokesman said when the police searched the house of the murderer they found forged identity papers and pictures of one of his victims on his mobile.
“The killer’s attempt to lure a housemaid out of the market and his son’s statement led us to believe that he was the killer we were looking for four years. When we arrested him, he admitted the three murders,” the spokesman said.
According to police sources Ahmad used to hunt his victims at markets. He would have sex with them before killing them. The police said he committed his first crime on Sept. 20, 2007.
