“Right now he is untouchable because he works harder than anyone,” Mourinho said ahead of a league game against Deportivo La Coruna in Madrid on Sunday.
The team has faced criticism for its lack of bite in attack this season, Mourinho’s first in charge. However, the Portuguese said he is happy with Madrid’s performances so far, adding that the team has created plenty of goalscoring chances.
“If we’d scored a goal in all the games we have drawn 0-0 — and we had enough chances to do so — we’d be talking about five wins in five in the league and two wins in two Champions League games,” he said.
Madrid has won three games and drawn two in the league. It has won both its Champions League games, including a 1-0 scoreline against Auxerre on Sept. 28.
When asked how long he will continue to refer to Madrid as a team under construction, Mourinho said: “I will do that for five or 10 months, or a year or two. Teams are always in permanent evolution.”
