The two-day conference, which was opened on Sunday by Indonesian Religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali at Hotel Sultan, also urged governments to support social and charitable activities. "The media should play a big role to enlighten youths about social responsibility," a final communiqué said.
The conference elected Saudi Islamic Affairs Minister Saleh Al-Asheikh as president of WAMY and Dr. Abdullah Omar Naseef vice president while Dr. Saleh Al-Wohaibi was re-elected as its secretary-general. The meeting also elected a 32-member board of trustees, of whom 11 are from Saudi Arabia.
The recommendations of the meeting will be sent to concerned parties, such as the governments or ministries of WAMY member countries, organizations and others. The important task of WAMY will be implementing the results of the meeting in the field, Al-Wohaibi said.
