Wilson Tumwine and two aides were hospitalized on Tuesday
after their vehicle hit a barrier at the entry to the Games Village around 2200
local time.
"The car carrying Uganda officials met with an accident
at the village gate barrier. The security barrier was raised unexpectedly which
caused damage and injuries to the officials," Commonwealth Games
Federation president Michael Fennell told reporters on Thursday.
"We regret the incident and it's being
investigated."
Games organizing committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot
said the officials were first taken to the polyclinic inside the Games Village
and then to a city hospital.
Tumwine and one of his aides needed stitches, but the three
were released on Wednesday afternoon.
"I am shocked and surprised. But I am fine now,"
Tumwine told Reuters on Thursday. "I am going to raise the issue at the
chef de missions meeting tomorrow."
