“Saudi boats were able to intercept three small boats and one small passenger ship used for smuggling people into the country from the Red Sea between Sept. 5 and 25,” said Col. Salem Saleh Al-Sulami, spokesman for the Saudi Border Guards.
“The boats were overloaded with people and those on board were in great danger. They were also suffering from malnutrition and needed immediate medical help,” Col. Al-Sulami said. He added that the authorities directed the boats to Al-Qunfudah port where they were provided with medical aid.
“Smugglers had promised to bring the passengers to the Kingdom for a fee. Their papers were handed over to their respective consulates to send them back,” he said.
