Alexandre died Tuesday
in Madrid's San Camilo Hospital where he was admitted in September with serious
health problems. Known for his soft manner and nearly permanent smile,
Alexandre was a contemporary of late actors such as Fernando Fernan-Gomez, Jose
Luis Lopez Vazquez and Agustin Gonzalez.
He starred in many comedies, including
Luis Garcia Berlanga's "Bienvenido, Mr. Marshall" ("Welcome Mr.
Marshall") in 1953, and Jose Luis Cuerda's "Amanece, Que no es
poco" ("Dawn Breaks, Which Is A Lot") in 1988. Alexandre never
married or had children.
A vigil for him held at Madrid's Teatro Espanol on
Wednesday before he was buried at the Almudena cemetery.
