“With the project, ADA will ease traffic flow while looking after the safety of pedestrians,” Abdullatif told Arab News on Sunday. He added that similar projects in the city are under way as part of a plan to further develop the Kingdom's capital.
On completion, King Abdullah Road will have three lanes in the main carriageway in addition to service lanes. The city will also see a light train track in the future and a 214-meter tunnel at the crossing with Khaled bin Al-Waleed Road.
The project will also include upgrading the Abu Bakr Al-Sidique and the Othman bin Affan tunnels as well as improving the movement of traffic in the area.
“Improvements and upgrading will be made at intersections within the project’s area to ensure safe and smooth traffic movement,” Al-Asheikh said.
He added that implementation of project on the middle section of King Abdullah Road is currently under way. “Designs for the western part of the road, west of Prince Turki Road until King Khaled Road, are almost complete,” he said.
