Matt Hunwick added a goal, and Tim Thomas made 35 saves to
improve to 3-0 for the Bruins, who held Alex Ovechkin without a point for the
first time in the young season.
Rookie Marcus Johansson scored the lone goal for the
Capitals, whose high-powered offense has yet to catch stride — even as their
penalty kill remains perfect. Washington held Boston scoreless on four power
plays, leaving opponents 0 for 25 through six games.
The Bruins scored twice on Michal Neuvirth before the
Capitals goaltender left the game in the first period because of illness.
Semyon Varlamov came on in relief and stopped 13 of 14 shots.
Flames 1 Predators 0, OT: In Nashville, Tennessee, Rene
Bourque scored at 2:10 of overtime to give Calgary a victory over Nashville.
After winning their first three games of the season, the
Predators have lost back-to-back games, both in overtime. Calgary has won two
straight.
Parked in the low slot, Bourque corralled the rebound of a
tough angle shot by Brendan Morrison and beat Predators goaltender Pekka Rinne on
the stick side.
After missing Calgary’s past two games with a concussion,
Bourque got his first goal of the season.
Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff stopped 34 shots for his
first shutout of the season and 35th of his career.
Wild 6  Canucks
2: In St. Paul, Minnesota, Marek Zidlicky had a goal and two assists, and
Minnesota scored three times on the power play to beat Vancouver.
Guillaume Latendresse , Cal Clutterbuck , John Madden ,
Andrew Brunette and Matt Cullen also scored for the Wild, who entered the game
with the league’s best power play at 38.1 percent, and was 3 for 3 with the man
advantage.
Daniel Sedin scored twice for Vancouver, which could see
center Rick Rypien facing disciplinary action after pushing a fan.
Rypien and Minnesota’s Brad Staubitz , who fought in the
opening period, were about to square off in the second period before being
separated by the linesmen in front of the Wild bench.
As Rypien, who was assessed a double minor for roughing and
a 10-minute misconduct, was pulled by linesman Don Henderson toward the
Vancouver bench, he appeared to push the official.
On his way down the tunnel to the dressing room, Rypien
pushed a Wild fan who was applauding at the railing. Rypien was quickly pulled
away by teammate Manny Malhotra . The fan was removed from the area. Rypien was
in the penalty box to start the third period, but did not get any ice time.
Hurricanes 5 Sharks 2: In San Jose, California, Eric Staal scored
a short-handed goal and Cam Ward made 41 saves to help Carolina get its first
win on American soil.
Erik Cole , Patrick Dwyer, Chad LaRose and Joni Pitkanen also
scored for the Hurricanes, who ended a two-game slide and won for the first
time since sweeping the Minnesota Wild in Helsinki, Finland.
Patrick Marleau scored twice for the Sharks, who have yet to
win a home game. Antti Niemi made 26 stops, but has allowed nine goals over his
past two games.
Staal scored Carolina’s first short-handed goal of the
season 6 minutes into the game. The Sharks allowed a short-handed goal for the
second consecutive game.
