Chief executive Haroon Lorgat said Saturday the ICC has sent an advisory to all members “about the need to root out corruption,” which requests players sign a one-off declaration before their next international match.
“Such a declaration is intended to serve as an important reminder of the spirit in which the game is meant to be played, the importance of its integrity and their roles and responsibilities in this regard,” Lorgat said.
The ICC's Pakistan Task Team has also reminded the Pakistan Cricket Board to encourage its players to share relevant information about corruption in the game.
“I can assure that such disclosures will be treated in strict confidence,” Lorgat said.
The ICC following allegations that they accepted money to bowl deliberate no balls during a Test against England in order to fix spot-betting markets has provisionally suspended three Pakistan players, Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir.
Butt and Aamir have appealed against their suspensions and will appear before ICC's code of commission in Dubai on Oct. 30-31. Asif withdrew his appeal on Friday.
Following a teleconference meeting between Pakistan Task Team members, which also involved PCB chairman Ijaz Butt on Saturday, Lorgat said the ICC was encouraged “by the excellent progress reported and also the willingness of the Pakistan Cricket Board to embrace the ICC recommendations.”
Task Team chairman Giles Clarke said it was important that Pakistan was given support as it attempts to “reform its cricket and governance models.”
