Pakistan restores status of 15 lawmakers

The commission had also earlier suspended 148 lawmakers for not filing their tax returns and other relevant papers. Pakistan’s electoral laws stipulate that lawmakers are barred from carrying out their duties if they fail to submit details of their assets by Sept. 15 every year.
Those who do not do so are given a 15-day grace period, after which election authorities can take appropriate action against them. Under the law, lawmakers’ memberships are restored as soon as they file details of their assets.
