The woman, who has a dark complexion and is from a poor biological family, was handed to a fair-skinned and wealthy Saudi family, while her biological mother received a fair-skinned baby in her stead.
After years of investigations, including the checking of old hospital records and medical tests, the fair-skinned baby, who is now a grown woman, learned that the family that raised her and with whom she lived a poor life were not in fact her real family. She then traced her real parents and was able to establish her real identity. Her findings have also been officially recognized by the authorities.
The other woman, who is of a dark complexion, has however been left in a difficult situation, especially since the only option she has is to return to a poor family who refuses to acknowledge the mistake and take her back. The family that raised her has also asked her to leave.
In her complaint to the NSHR, the woman said the mix-up has been traumatic and that she does not know how to cope with the “embarrassing” developments. The NSHR has also asked her to seek the help of other government departments.
