Egypt’s Middle East News Agency says in a Monday report that candidates will fight for parliament’s 508 seats, including 64 allocated for women.
Authorities have cracked down on government critics in the run-up to the Nov. 28 vote, arresting dozens of opposition activists.
The outgoing parliament is dominated by President Hosni Mubarak’s ruling National Democratic Party and that is unlikely to change after this month’s vote.
Elections in Egypt are routinely marred by fraud, but authorities have pledged that the next one will be fair although they have rejected calls for allowing international observers to monitor the vote.
