The member states chose the Kingdom from among the contributing countries to serve three-year terms beginning Oct. 11 along with the USA, Britain, Spain, Mexico and Norway .
Al-Iban said this election illustrates the approval of the international community on the development of women's rights and empowerment in the Kingdom.
The 41 board members included ten from Africa, ten from Asia, four from Eastern Europe, six from Latin America and the Caribbean, five from Western Europe and six from other countries.
The elections, held in the 54-member Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), will enable the new board to come together prior to the official establishment on Jan. 1 of the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women.
The new agency was established on July 2 by a unanimous vote of the General Assembly to oversee all of the world body's programs aimed at promoting women's rights and their full participation in global affairs.
