On the way to their success the Falcons defeated the Dubai Exiles II 31 to 0, Dubai Dragons III 17 to 0 and fellow Riyadh entrants the Warriors 19 to 0 but losing to the Arabian Potbellies 17 points to 7 and Beirut Select 24 to 5.
The final against Fujairah RFC was something of a rout for Riyadh. The first quarter saw Fujairah testing Riyadh attacking skills by offering a robust but under-coordinated defense. Riyadh soon found the weaknesses and once through for the first try, they applied heavy pressure to Fujairah who simply had no answer.
Riyadh triumphed 29 points to 0.
Hard but good tempered the game ended with the honors to Riyadh. Fujairah were tired but exemplary in their courtesy and, in the very best traditions of the game, warmly congratulated the victors and escorted them to the podium to receive the Plate.
Jeddah Rugby Club's progress through the Trophy matches ended on Friday evening with a 32 to 19 defeat by the Dubai Dragons III team. Hit by injury and players absent as a direct result of the entry qualifications they fielded only six players, four of whom were Jeddah regulars. Unable to find a seventh player from the pool of local players, the club decided to play anyway despite the critical shortage.
The Riyadh Warriors, in their first outing to a competition that involved other than local clubs gleaned only ten points from their four matches. With some impressively fast and agile players, the team cheerfully took the hits and played through their matches showing that they have the attitude if not the experience necessary to develop a tighter team for next year's outing.
