The money has been given to a local community-based grass roots organization, the Mouvement Pour le Progrès de Roche Bois (Movement for the Progress of Roche Bois).
The training center will be built to provide educational support and social integration activities for children and parents in Roche Bois, a deprived region of Mauritius. School failure is widespread within the community, creating a situation whereby poverty is passed on from one generation to the next.
Prince Alwaleed has made some $2.4 billion worth of donations to over 60 countries from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, and from Gaza to the Gambia, over the last 30 years. He has also established three foundations to handle his philanthropic activities — Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation in Saudi Arabia, Alwaleed bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation in Lebanon and Alwaleed bin Talal Foundation in Lebanon.
His foundations work locally, regionally and internationally to combat poverty, strengthen interfaith and intercultural dialogue, and empower women and youth.
