Police officers were chasing the motorcyclist who had refused to stop. He died close to a police checkpoint on Al-Salam Road. The police car he crashed into was stationary at the time.
The dead man’s father said his other son received a telephone call from Al-Aziziyah police station on Sunday morning asking him to come to the police station. He received another telephone call an hour later asking him to go to King Fahd Hospital.
“We went together to the hospital. They took us to the morgue to identify a body. We were shocked to see my son there covered in blood,” he said. “The officer at the scene did not tell me much. He just said I should visit the police station the next day.”
The next day, the father went to the police station to inquire how his son died. He was told that his son was to be prosecuted before his death and that his file had been transferred to the General Prosecution and Investigation Board. He also learned that his son had died two days before on Friday and that he was only informed on Sunday.
The father said he thought his son was in Makkah. He then asked for a permit to bury him, but this was refused because there is a criminal case against him and that permission would be granted once investigations are completed.
