“The floods caused the death
of a man and three children in the suburbs of Makkah, collapse of many houses
in Al-Sawaed and Umm Al-Khayr districts and serious injuries to a security man
in Jeddah,” Prince Khaled said in a press conference in Jeddah on Thursday.
Prince Khaled said Crown
Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation and Second Deputy
Premier and Interior Minister Prince Naif have been in touch with him and
ordering him to offer assistance to anyone who needs assistance and do
everything to repair all damages caused by the rain.
The prince also expressed his
satisfaction at the preparedness of government departments to face any
situation.
Prince Khaled also referred
to current studies being undertaken for the development of the East Jeddah and
on the feasibility of removing the two dams there in addition to the
development of the Umm Al-Khayr district.
“The problems of Jeddah will
never go away until the sewage project is completed,” the governor said.
He added that the
implementation of development projects in East Jeddah would commence after the
completion of the studies.
With regard to grabbing on
government properties by some people, the prince said the government has
allowed some time for evacuating them. However he warned that the government
would not tolerate if anyone persist in illegally occupying government land.
Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal
bin Majed also attended the press conference.
