“One of the priorities of a Muslim student movement is to fight the spread of terrorist and extremist ideologies in universities, colleges and schools in the Indian state of Kerala,” said Sayyid Mohammed Shakir, who is also a patron of the student movement.
The student organization, which is called the Mujahid Student Movement (MSM), is planning to organize a three-day conference with the participation of 25,000 students at Kottakkal in Kerala beginning on Jan 7. The conference will focus on peace and knowledge as the tools to build up an ideal Islamic society.
The participants in the meeting also expressed their relief at the news of the speedy recovery of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah from his illness.
Shakir stressed the need for people to respond to King Abdullah’s call to promote world peace through dialogue among different cultures.
“The tendency to resort to brutality in the present world is due to the utter failure in understanding the basic principles of Islam,” said Shakir, adding that the Holy Qur'an prompts man to think about the world around him and acknowledge the supremacy of the Creator. “Implementing the principles of the Holy Qur’an and treading the path shown by the Prophet (peace be upon him) is the only way to achieve peace in this world and the life hereafter.”
Shakir, who is on a short visit to the Kingdom, said the MSM has been organizing various programs to spread Islamic teachings with special stress on the dangers of extremism.
The MSM organized three conferences in the past and the first conference was attended by former imam of the Grand Mosque Shaikh Abdullah Al-Subayyil.
