"There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing
ovation," Douglas told the crowd at the Beverly Hilton, days after
revealing that he had beaten late-stage throat cancer.
He went on to announce "The Social Network" as the
winner of the Globe's best drama award. Douglas was also a nominee, cited for
his supporting role as financier Gordon Gekko in "Wall Street: Money Never
Sleeps." But he lost to awards-season favorite Christian Bale of "The
Fighter." Accompanied by wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, Douglas earlier told
E!'s Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet that he felt "great" and was
able to "smell the roses" more.
"Last week I got the tumors gone," said the actor.
"This type of cancer usually doesn't come back. I am so happy to be out.
This is our first time out in months and months. To be able to be cancer free
is pretty special."
Michael Douglas glad to be out and about
