Carte
Blanche, written by Jeffery Deaver, was unveiled on Monday. Its jacket
shows rising smoke in a white backdrop.
“Dubai
will be the backdrop for 007's new adventures,” he told reporters.
"In
the world of espionage, giving an agent carte blanche on a mission comes with
an enormous amount of trust and it constantly tests both personal and
professional judgements. Part of the nonstop suspense in the novel is the
looming question of what is acceptable in matters of national and international
security” he added.
"When
I thought about the setting for the new book I thought immediately about
Dubai," he said
“I am very
happy to be back in Dubai again. It is an inspirational and a wonderful city
and I see the perfect location for the events of James Bond novels."
He said
he was attracted by Dubai's "exotic" mix of gleaming towers and
desert. His favourite parts of Dubai are Port Saeed and Deira.
Deaver,
who has published more than two dozen novels, was commissioned to write the
book by the estate of Bond creator Ian Fleming.
Deaver
said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, vice president and prime minister
of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, had expressed a great interest in the book. He
thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his warm welcome and hospitality.
Ahmed
Al-Sheikh, director general of Dubai government’s media office, said that
Dubai will give all support for cultural and artistic creativity.
It's the
first time Dubai has been featured in a Bond plot.
