According to police sources, after the special 23-carriage
train chartered by the BJP was stopped, the engine of the train was changed and
the train was sent in the reverse direction towards Bangalore. At the time of
the swift action by the police in the early hours of the morning at 3 A.M.,
several of the BJP workers were asleep and were unaware of the police action.
A senior police official speaking to Arab News said that
stopping the train and reversing it back was a joint operation by the local
police, Central Reserve Police Force and the Railway police. During the
operation, all the lights in the train were switched off; thereafter the engine
in the front was removed and put in the rear direction. Two additional carriages
were attached to the train with 1500 policemen and the train was cleared to
move towards Bangalore.
Meanwhile, after some time, at 5 in the morning, the BJP
workers came to know the police action at Solapur railway station, creating chaos
and shouting slogans, they pulled the chain of the train and stopped it at
Nagansur station on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, which led to the
disruption in the running of two express trains.
According to the Solapur police, two thousand BJP workers
from Tumkur, Dharwad, Bangalore, Bidar, Gulburga Bagalkot, Bijapur and some
other districts of Karnataka, were heading towards Srinagar to participate in
the BJP rally in Jammu under the leadership of Karnataka State BJP Youth Wing President
Sunil Kumar. Heavy police deployment was put in place in Solapur after the BJP
workers tried to create trouble at the railway station. The police then forced
all the BJP workers to board the train again after which the train moved again
in the direction of Bangalore. BJP legislator from Solapur Sridamappa Patil who
visited the railway station condemned the state government for the police
action
