Failure feels so bad because it directly affects our ego and sense of identity in relation to the world around us, said Bird, while speaking before the prize giving ceremony at the 5th Global Competitiveness Form (GCF) here on Sunday. “I love to fail and fail immediately," said Bird, who was also one of the panelists on the first GCF session Sunday morning, when he spoke on the theme of 2011 GCF — Innovation as a means of competitiveness.
Referring to the success story of Walt Disney International, Bird said that the company has emerged as a leading diversified international family entertainment and media enterprise. He said that Disney had an R&D department, which has 289 patents to its credit until today. Bird said that "innovation was at the heart of Walt Disney International, which started with a synchronized cartoon unit way back in 1928.
Bird, who works with all of Disney's business unit leaders around the world, said that the Walt Disney Studios is the foundation on which Disney was built, and at its heart are world-renowned animated features and live-action motion pictures. He added that the world will see more and more innovations in the entertainment industry, adding that creative minds tend and want to produce something innovative and imaginative.
With the creation of Mickey Mouse and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the world's first full-length animated feature, the Disney name quickly became synonymous with quality entertainment for the whole family, he explained. Since Bird joined the Walt Disney Company in 2004, he has seen many innovations and growth.
He has overseen Disney's growth and acquisitions in different countries including the US, China and India. On the international level, Disney has initiated a unique strategy of development. It launched, for example, Disney English training in China. It aims to lead Chinese children to learn English in a happy and “dynamic” environment, as well as to understand Disney culture in the learning process.
