Palestinian security sources said that the Israeli fired live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets, stun grenades and tear gas to disperse the participants in the funeral of 17-year-old Yousef Ikhleil.
The sources said the Palestinians’ sustained injuries from live ammo, burns and from gas inhalation. Israeli Army Radio said that Palestinian teens threw firebombs and stones at an Israeli military post near Beit Ommar during Ikhleil’s funeral.
The report said that the soldiers manning the post responded with riot-dispersal means. The report claimed that no one was hurt.
Ikhleil, who was critically wounded by Jewish occupiers’ fire Friday morning, has died of his wounds, sources at a Palestinian hospital in Hebron said Saturday.
The teen was shot in violent clashes between Palestinians and occupiers in Khirbet Safa, north of Hebron.
An additional Palestinian man, aged 23, was also injured.
The Israeli army condemned the event and said occupier suspects had been arrested.
The Jewish occupiers have increased their acts of harassment against Palestinians in the West Bank as part of the their “price tag” policy, intended to pressure the Israeli government away from making concessions regarding settlement building in the West Bank.
In September 2010, the US-brokered peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians collapsed after Israel refused to extend a 10- month moratorium over freezing settlement constructions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
The Palestinians have been seeking to get international recognition of their state within the 1967 borders in response to the breakdown of peace talks with Israel after the Israeli government resumed building settlements in the West Bank in September.
