“If
the court asks I will present a complete file on Raymond Davis,” the minister
said adding, “according to our record he enjoys diplomatic immunity.”
“Davis
holds a diplomatic passport … he traveled to Pakistan on a diplomatic visa
given after clearance by the security agencies of the country. Pakistan is a
signatory to certain international protocols (on diplomatic immunity) and we
cannot violate them.”
Rehman
said, “Some people wanted to see the file, but I kept it in my office and will
share the details with the court.”
However,
Rehman said Davis’ name has been put on the Exit Control List on court’s orders
and he cannot leave Pakistan. “He has been arrested and will be treated in
accordance with the law,” Rehman said, adding that the matter was in the court
now.
He
informed the Parliament that central and provincial governments would not
hinder court proceedings regarding Davis. The minister said the information
would be shared with the House within a couple of days as soon as the
investigation report from Punjab was received.
In
another development the Lahore High Court granted bail to Davis on the charges
of possessing illegal arms but extended his physical remand for eight days. The
court asked Davis to deposit Rs. 100,000 as bail money.
Davis
was produced before the Cantonment Court in Lahore on Thursday morning for the
hearing of two cases.
The
accused will now appear before the court on Feb. 11.
