The girls were identified as Nada Husain Al-Zahrani, 9, and Amani Husain Al-Zahrani, 10, said Civil Defense spokesman in Makkah province Maj. Abdullah Al-Amri.
"Four firefighting teams were sent to the one-story building this morning. They had to break the metal doors and windows to rescue the eight members of the family trapped inside."
The smoke spread quickly because the habitation contained a lot of cheap foam padding and floor pillows, he added.
According to a recent statement from Civil Defense, Jeddah experienced 667 house fires out of 4,654 fires in the past six months. Out of these only one fire broke out in a hotel, one fire broke out in a gas station and no fires occurred in any mosques.
There were 46 factory fires and 16 warehouse fires in the same period of time.
The Civil Defense said this rate is lower than same period of time in the past due to new polices.
The statistical report also said six suicides occurred, 16 buildings collapsed in this period of time.
Also, 191 people were rescued from elevators; 183 were rescued from being trapped in vehicles; two were rescued from drowning; 15 extremely overweight people were helped out of buildings; and 67 prank emergency calls were received.
