Ambassador Donald C.T. Lee hinted the move endangers the legal rights of 80,000 Filipino workers in Taiwan.
Manila’s Feb. 2 move has angered Taipei as it appeared to suggest that China — and not Taiwan itself — has jurisdiction over the Taiwanese.
Lee on Wednesday handed Justice Secretary Leila de Lima a statement of protest that said the deportation violated Philippine immigration and international laws. He says it also ignored due legal process and representations by his office.
Taiwan is recalling Lee this week over the issue.
