According to a spokesman from Saur, a joint company will be set up with Marafiq to manage the project.
Last June, Saur was given a $46-million contract by the National Water Company for the production and distribution of drinking water and the supply sanitation services in Makkah and Taif in a joint venture with the Zamil Group. The contract is for five years.
In 2005, Saur was asked by the Ministry of Water and Electricity to conduct an audit of water and sanitation services in part of the Eastern Province. Two years later, it was awarded a 12-month technical assistance contract for water and sanitation management in Jeddah.
Commenting on the Makkah/Taif contract and now that of Jubail, Saur’s Chairman Joël Séché was quoted in the French daily Le Figaro saying that they opened "the door to an area with an especially strong demand for services linked to water.”
Last year, Saur Group’s turnover was 1.6 billion euros, 2.6 percent up on 2009. Its main shareholders are the Caisse des Dépôts (38 percent) and Séché Environnement (33 percent).
