Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Chairman Esam Fakhro and other business community leaders voiced concern over the unfolding events.
Fakhro also called upon the opposition to call off the protests as such actions might hurt Bahrain’s economic progress.
Three days of protests have virtually brought business operations to a standstill, traders pointed out.
Hotels, restaurants and major shopping malls such as the City Center, Seef Mall and Al A’ali Mall, Marina Mall, Yateem Center in Manama, were hit hard by the unrest.
Fakhro deplored any moves aimed at stall the government’s economic drive and called on the citizens and residents to rally round Bahrain’s leadership.
“We receive hundreds of visitors every day from across the Saudi causeway. These ugly scenes of skirmishes would send alarm to the families,” a leading businessman said.
“Bahrain is aiming itself to become a hub for family tourism and such protests will just not help the system,” he added.
