Munde alleged that the mafia had become so powerful that it was ruling the state by proxy and that Chavan and Pawar lacked the courage and the political will to eliminate them.
Targeting Chavan and Pawar and mocking at the Congress MP Suresh Kalmadi who is caught in the web of scams relating to the recently concluded Common Wealth Games (CWG), Munde claimed that the noose around Kalmadi's neck is being tightened by the investigating agencies slowly but steadily.
Taking pot shots at state Home Minister R.R. Patil, Munde said that Patil has the habit of talking a lot but doing nothing. His performance report card is extremely poor. "During the Sena-BJP rule there was no adulteration of oil nor there was any trace of the mafia. But in the Congress-NCP rule, there is widespread oil adulteration rackets, corruption, and large number of oil and sand mafia on the prowl. During the saffron rule, we eliminated 400 goons in encounters and did not allow the mafia to raise their heads," Munde claimed.
Munde further stated that the Congress-NCP led government woke up from its long sleep after the murder of Manmad Additional Collector Yeshwant Sonawane who was burned to death by the oil mafia in January. Munde questioned as to why action was not taken against the oil mafia despite having detailed information about them and their activities. He alleged that the arrests of the accused in the Sonawane murder case were nothing but an eye-wash by the state government.
Meanwhile, the officers of the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) along with officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Tuesday broke open five lockers in different banks in Pune held by Kalmadi, sources said. Several incriminating documents and other valuables were seized by the CBI and DRI team from Kalmadi's lockers.
