“The two have targeted multiple residential apartments at different times with the intention of stealing from them,” said Col. Misfer Al-Juaid, spokesman for Jeddah police. “The woman in question would keep an eye on a targeted apartment and when the residents left she would alert her male companion to break the door locks.”
Both suspects were identified as illegal residents. Al-Juaid said the couple would sell stolen valuables, including jewelry and electronics.
“The two were arrested after a year-and-a-half-long investigation,” said Al-Juaid. “The suspects’ fingerprints were found at 23 different locations around the city. During police questioning both admitted to committing 33 theft in all in Sharafiyah, Salamah and Safah districts.” The two allegedly wired home approximately SR40,000. An investigation of their home turned up stolen jewelry.
