During the tour, known as the Tourism Media Convoy, they met with Dean of Libraries Affairs Hussain bin Hamad Dugreri who is also in charge of the university’s public relations.
The trip also included a visit to Fursan Island and the Faifa Mountains as well as a meeting with the governor of Jazan, Prince Nasir bin Abdul Aziz.
It was the tenth such media “convoy” and the second where travel writers have been taken to Jazan.
“The writers and media representatives are purveyors of public information and their contribution to national awareness of tourism and cultural heritage is very important,” said Majid Al Sheddi, head of information at the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA).
The “convoy” included writers from local newspapers as well as a number of freelance journalists and professional and amateur photographers. According to Al Sheddi, the aim is to introduce the Saudi-based public to tourist sites via the travel writer and the photographer’s lens.
“SCTA takes into account the importance of writers in highlighting the tourism potential as well as shedding light on the Kingdom’s archaeological and cultural riches,” he said.
In this case, the aim was to attract tourists to Jazan.
Past “media convoys” have visited Makkah, Madina, Asir, Baha, Taif, Jeddah, Qasseem, Jazan, Najran, Jouf, Tabuk, Eastern Province and Hail.
“This year, the SCTA will launch the 11th media convoy, for national media only, visiting municipalities in Riyadh province. The 12th convoy will be devoted to GCC media and will visit Najran,” Al Sheddi said.
