“Another serious complaint made by orphans is that the officials in their orphanages did not help them to get their identity documents issued from the Civil Affairs Department,” the source added.
He also said the NSHR has been urging the Ministry of Social Affairs to train all its employees on healthy treatment of orphans.
The NSHR will also urge women officials of the Social Welfare Department in the Ministry of Social Affairs to meet with orphan girls in orphanages in Jeddah and listen to their needs and complaints.
The source said a common complaint from orphan girls was that social welfare officials often refuse to meet them or make any move to solve their problems.
The source also confirmed to Arab News that the NSHR plans to launch a campaign for better treatment of all orphans. The campaign will stress the need for educational institutions to treat orphans with consideration, including offering them special scholarships.
Arab News also learned that an orphanage in the Hindawiyah district was closed a week ago on charges of immoral activities.
In another orphanage, Arab News found a woman in her 30s without identity documents. She was abandoned by her mother after her birth in a Jeddah hospital.
