The newspaper will limit Web surfers coming from all major search engines. Initially, the Times planned to impose a daily limit of five free articles on traffic sent by Google’s search engine, the industry leader.
Now, other search engines including Yahoo and Microsoft’s Bing will be limited to five apiece as well.
The Times’ online fees take effect in the US on March 28.
The Times’ digital fees, announced on Thursday, will apply to readers using its website and applications for smartphones and Apple’s iPad tablet computer.
The fees range from $15 to $35 every four weeks.
