The Emirates’ Higher Colleges of Technology said Thursday that climber Alain Robert has approval to climb the 2,717 foot-tall Burj Khalifa during the institution’s Education Without Borders conference. Robert said that unlike in previous climbs, he’ll use a rope and harness on Monday’s ascent to comply with organizers’ requirements. The 48-year-old says he’s climbed more than 70 skyscrapers around the world, including the Empire State Building and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur. Tower owner Emaar Properties couldn’t be reached for comment.
