Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Khoja had inaugurated the event at King Fahd Cultural Center. Deputy Minister of Culture and Information Prince Turki ibn Sultan, Uzbek ministers, ambassadors and a large number of Saudis and expatriates attended the event in Riyadh.
“This event is a model for cultural exchanges between the Kingdom and other friendly countries. It is an embodiment of the call made by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah for the dialogue of Cultures," Khoja said in his address at the event.
"Uzbekistan is renowned for its Islamic history as being the origin homeland of many great Muslim scholars, e.g. Imam Al Bukhari, the compiler of the most authenticated collection of the sayings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Ibn Sina, the great philosopher and physician who wrote the canon of medicine, which was a standard medical text book at many medieval universities in Europe," he pointed out.
Uzbekistani culture is now in Jeddah and is a good opportunity to see features of the rich culture. Handmade rugs, carpets, gourmets, and handicrafts will be on display. Apart from a troupe presenting Uzbek folk music and dance, spectacular photos of major geographical, historical and modern landmarks too are to be exhibited.
