The arrest was in cooperation with Dubai Police and the Dubai Naturalization and Residency Department as part of daily spot checks in streets and public places to prevent street vending, begging and car washing in public places in violation of a ruling by the Labor Ministry.
According to the statement, in March, the civic inspectors caught 350 street vendors, 53 beggars, 75 car washers and 21 illegal butchers and fish cleaners.
A total of 2,080 counterfeit products including ready-made garments, perfumes, and phones were also confiscated. In addition, some 6,942 DVDs with pirated films, 67 pornographic movies, 111 foodstuff items including boxes of fruits and vegetables, 29 trolleys and 11 bundles of cattle feed were also seized.
The law-breakers will be deported after legal actions and the seized goods would be destroyed and disposed off.
Last month, the Department of Economic Development (DED) had destroyed 453,000 fake goods confiscated during 2010. Most of the products confiscated were from shops in Bur Dubai, Karama and Deira.
In general cases, once DED seizes fake products from the shops, they impose fines ranging 5,000 to 20,000 dirhams and closes the establishments of repeat offenders for up to 90 days.
