The
opening ceremony on Sunday evening saw speeches by Dr. Saeed Al-Omar,
vice president of branches affairs; Dr. Maha Baker, dean of the College
of Arts, and Dr. Omaimah Mughrabi, chairperson of the Department of
English Language and secretary-general of the symposium. The symposium
sponsors as well as the keynote speakers were honored. The forum hosted
poetess Aida Al-Juhani as a guest of honor.The symposium aims to
deliver a critical inquiry into the interconnections and contradictions
of ecology and contemporary literature, language and theory. The topic
areas analyze works from different historical periods in the context of
21st century issues of environmental influences.“Our symposium this
time is international in nature because of participants from different
parts of the world,” said Dr. Sabah Al-Aisawi, the symposium’s media
chairperson.More than 35 participants will present their papers
covering a wide range of topics, including ecocriticism, ecofeminism,
ecoliterature, ecopoetics, ecolinguistics, translation, and other
related topics in As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyah, psychology and history.Papers are presented over a number of sessions both in English and Arabic for the first time.
