“The company has of late entered into the commercial operation with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons of paper thus increasing its foreign markets by about 40 percent,” said Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al-Muammar, the company’s managing director.
MEPCO is a pioneering national company in the manufacturing and production of paper through recycling of the cartons.
It has invested SR 1.2 billion in this field to cover the needs of the Kingdom and to export the surplus abroad.
“We are still planning more future expansions,” Al-Muammar added.
The company started production early 2003 after it has established its state-of-the-art factory in south Jeddah with an annual capacity of 65,000 tons, which was raised to 280,000 by the year 2006.
The company increased its annual production to 500,000 tons this year.
It depends on the recycled water and has established a plant for the purpose so as to be able to use this water again thus saving the vital liquid instead of dumping it as waste.
The company’s factory is an environment-friendly facility recycling the paper waste without the need to cut trees thus preserving the environment. The paper constitutes about 15 percent of the waste in the Kingdom.
Supporting the government’s efforts aimed at collecting garbage, the company established a firm for the collection and recycling of paper waste. The firm has branches in all major cities in the Kingdom as well as in other countries including Yemen, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan and Britain.
MEPCO produces all kinds of paper including craft, cardboard, spiral and multi-layer paper. It has established a distinct presence in the local and international markets because of the quality of its products. The production is made mechanically in all stages, which enabled the company to win the ISO certificate. The company exports its production to more than 30 countries in Asia and Africa.
MEPCO also won King Khaled’s award for the responsible competitiveness in production and innovation. King Khaled Charity Foundation awards the prize in a strategic partnership with the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA).
The company won the prize for its distinction among the Saudi companies in providing innovated and high-quality products and also for its ability for competitiveness.
The factors that qualified the company to win the prize included its ability to spread its experiment in recycling carton paper and recycling wastewater for production.
Bin Muammar received the prize from Prince Faisal bin Khaled, governor of Asir, in the presence of SAGIA Gov. Amr Al-Dabbagh and said the prize was in recognition of the company’s distinction in paper production and in encouraging Saudi youths to take up small investment opportunities.
