The two results left Juventus
eight points adrift of Lazio whose win made sure they would finish the weekend
in fourth place, the last Champions League qualifying round berth.
Both teams have five matches
left and Juventus, seventh with 52 points, will now have to concentrate on
finishing fifth or sixth to qualify at least for the Europa League.
Cesena moved out of the
relegation places with a 1-0 win over bottom club Bari, sending Sampdoria, who
were thrashed 3-0 by leaders AC Milan Saturday, into the danger zone in their
place.
Second-placed Napoli, six
points behind Milan, are at home to Udinese in a late night match.
Juve's match at Fiorentina
was a dour affair with only a brief flurry of action at the start of the second
half, following Alessandro del Piero's introduction for the visitors,
interrupting the tedium.
Brazilian midfielder Hernanes gave Lazio the lead at
Catania five minutes before halftime following a headed pass from Stefano
Mauri.
Matias Schelotto leveled
immediately after the break but Mauri put Lazio back ahead in the 56th minute
before late goals from Sergio Floccari and Argentine Mauro Zarate completed an
impressive win for the visitors.
Albania striker Erjon Bogdani
scored early in the second half to give Cesena an important win and lift them
to 17th place, one above the danger zone, with 34 points, two more than
Sampdoria.
Bari stayed rooted to the
bottom of the table with 21 points and look doomed.
Brescia, in 19th place, went
down 3-0 at midtable Genoa to stay on 30 points.
Lecce boosted their survival
hopes when Fabiano and Daniele Corvia scored in the last three minutes to
snatch a 3-3 draw at home to Calgiari, who had led with two goals from Robert
Acquafresca and one from Daniele Conti.
Algerian Djamel Mesbah scored
Lecce's other goal early in the second half.
The point left Lecce 16th
with 35 points.
