Toshiba has just unveiled its multi-proof CAMILEO BW10 HD Digital Camcorder. This pocket-sized camcorder can operate underwater or in a sandstorm delivering HD quality video and pictures all the while. The CAMILEO BW10 is clad in silver and yellow and features a rubberized coating that makes it easy to hold on to in less than perfect recording conditions.  It can record in full HD 1080p video up to two meters underwater and offers a 10x digital zoom to capture images from afar.
The CAMILEO BW10 camcorder is equipped with a two-inch diagonal LCD screen and weighs just 100 grams, making it perfect for tossing into a beach bag or backpack. Ideal for action-packed activities underwater and on land, the camcorder’s electronic image stabilization helps users capture steadier images. Another key feature found in the BW10 package is easy YouTube uploading with the CAMILEO Uploader software. The BW10 also doubles as a five megapixel digital still camera, with separate video and photo functions for instant action. Consumers can conveniently view videos and still photos directly on a computer or HDTV with a mini HDMI cable. The BW10 is available now, retailing for about $150.
In a few weeks, Samsung will also be introducing its multi-proof W200 Pocket Cam for filming anywhere. The W200 is equipped with a 5 megapixel Back Side Illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor, which delivers double the sensitivity of previous CMOS sensors, capturing footage with reduced image noise and distortion. Along with this, the W200 includes a bright F2.2 lens to give users the ability to shoot during low-light conditions for blur-free images. The camcorder saves in Full HD resolution and displays video on a 2.3” 230K clear pixel LCD screen. An added feature is a built-in USB arm, that makes it easy to share recorded images.
The W200 is particularly suited for capturing video at the pool or beach. It's waterproof up to three meters, and the camcorder's anti-water drop coating means that the LCD screen will stay free of condensation, even in damp conditions, so there's no need to wipe the screen before filming. The lens also features an anti-fog coating that lets steam disperse so the user can always capture clear, blur-free videos and pictures even straight after coming out of the pool. To make capturing great underwater footage simple, the W200 offers an Aqua Mode setting, which automatically sets the ideal parameters for bright, and clear underwater video.
In addition to delivering high-quality video, the W200 makes it easy to both manage video files and be creative with them too. With Samsung’s Record Pause feature, users can pause briefly during filming and then resume from the exact same moment. When filming is complete, footage will all be in the same file, removing the need to merge files. That makes uploading and sharing hassle-free. To have more fun with filming, the W200 has two special Smart Filter features - the vignetting mode allows users to fade the edges of shots and the Fish-Eye setting creates video with an arty, distorted feel. The W200 will retail for about $160.
One camcorder that should have been on the market by now but has been delayed by the March 11 earthquake in Japan, is Sony's 3D Handycam. The company's distribution network and supply chain were disrupted by the earthquake resulting in a shortage of components. The HDR-T10 Handycam will now launch in Japan in mid-May and launch dates for other markets have yet to be revised. Sony Ericsson is also having earthquake related supply chain disruptions and its Xperia Arc, Xperia Play and Xperia Neo phone manufacturing are below targets, resulting in distribution shortages.
