India is seeking from Pakistan "most favored nation's status.
Pakistan’s Commerce Secretary Zafar Mahmood and his Indian counterpart Rahul Khullar resumed direct talks on trade expansion and removal of non-tariff barriers between the two countries.
Talks between the two officials are to continue for two days and are expected to focus on strengthening trade relations that have remained at a standstill since the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
The resumption of dialogue has also provided a chance to Pakistan to persuade India to withdraw its resistance to the proposed EU trade concessions offered to the country in the wake of devastating floods last year.
The Indian government, with the help of a few others, had restricted the EU move of seeking waiver for implementation of trade concessions at the Geneva-based World Trade Organization last month.
The issue is now expected to be taken up at the WTO General Council meeting scheduled for May 3.
The $900 million trade concessions, which were scheduled to be implemented from January, have already been delayed by at least three months.
Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce has backed most favored nation's status to India for smooth and easy flow of regular trade.
