The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments is organizing the event with the participation of 104 boys and 47 girls.
Salman Al-Amri, chairman of th Public Relations Committee of the contest, said 1,114 boys and 461 girls have participated in the contests since 1997, when the contests began.
Riyadh Gov. Prince Salman has spent SR19.5 million from his personal account on prizes to the winners over the past 12 years, he said.
He added that the judge's panel for recitations included Imam and Khatib at the Prophet’s Mosque and Judge at the Madinah Court Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Al-Qasim and Head of Recitations Department at the Umm Al-Qura University Salem Al-Zahrani.
The contest has five categories and each category will have first, second and third prizes. The first, second and third prizes for the first category for both boys and girls will fetch SR70,000, SR68,000 and SR66,000 respectively, Al-Qasim said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency.
