Official spokesman for Jeddah police Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid said, “The three suspects attacked the 40-year-old Yemeni outside the bank and stole more than SR168,000 from him. The victim grabbed one of the attackers and managed to hold him until police arrived.”
The arrested man told the police about the hiding place of his two accomplices. “Police moved into the location and arrested them, recovering the money,” Al-Juaid said.
The victim suffered from injuries and as a result spent three days in hospital. Al-Juaid said the attackers were also responsible for other criminal activities.
Meanwhile, two Bangladeshi nationals in their 20’s were arrested in Al-Sabeel district of south Jeddah for stealing the iqama of an Egyptian resident. The two Bangladeshis were blackmailing the Egyptian to pay money in order to get his iqama back. Police set up a trap for the two Bangladeshis and arrested them before the Egyptian paid them.
In related news, police arrested an Egyptian accused of stealing SR85,000 from a company he used to work for. The company said the Egyptian hid the money and was planning to escape from the country. The company filed complaint against the worker. During questioning, the Egyptian pleaded innocent. Police are still investigating.
Police also arrested a 40-year-old Syrian national accused of cheating a car dealer. The car dealer complained to police that the Syrian man did not pay for the car he purchased. The car dealer accused the Syrian of trying to escape with the car without paying the outstanding amount of SR24,000. Police are investigating the case.
