EP voter registration up by 51%

It marks an increase of 51.2 percent over the number of voters during the first municipal elections about six years ago, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Dammam Municipality Muhammad bin Abdul Aziz Al-Safyan announced Friday.
He said by the end of the first week, 7,700 citizens registered their names as voters while the number reached 18,902 by the end of the second week and 28,573 by the end of the third week. “This reflects the awareness of citizens about the importance of the elections and their keenness to participate in this national duty which is in the interest of all,” he said.
Al-Safyan said the two balloting center in the regions of Al-Qaisouma and Al-Khafji were closed down after they had completed their quotas of registration, which was 3,000 voters each.
“New centers will be open to continue the registration process in ease and comfort,” he added.
Al-Safyan said all the centers are well equipped and manned by qualified cadres to complete registration in a record time.
“Voters should not worry about crowding or queuing for long hours as registration will take very little time,” he assured voters.
Meanwhile director of education in the Eastern Province Abdul Rahman Al-Midairis urged all those working in the field of education in the province to register for the elections. He made the call while registering his name at Prince Saud bin Jalawi Complex in Dammam.
“This superb project will give citizens the opportunity to contribute to the process of decision-making. As we are responsible for the education and upbringing of youth, we have a double responsibility to participate in the elections,” he said.
Al-Midairis said he sent text messages to all the staff of the ministry to register their names and give their votes to the worthy candidate.
Meanwhile, a total of 26,300 voters have registered in 19 centers in Al-Jouf region since the start of the registration process, which will be halted on Thursday. Chairman of the local elections committee Muhammad bin Hamad Al-Nasser said 7,946 voters registered in the town of Sakaka, 8,057 in Al-Qurayat, 2,858 in Tabarjal, 2,579 in Dawmat Al-Jandal, 2,007 in Suwair, 1,108 in Al-Esawiyah, 373 in Abu Ajram, 363 in Al-Nasifah, 467 in Zaloum and 542 in Al-Haditha.
He asked the Saudi citizens who have not registered yet to do so quickly so as to exercise their right to participation in decision making.
More than 200,000 citizens have so far registered throughout the Kingdom for the second municipal elections, which will be conducted in September.
