Khamis Mushayt is the second largest city in the southern province of Asir.
The committee started investigations following a complaint of the mother that the new wife was torturing her stepchildren, a source not authorized to speak on behalf of the committee told Arab News on Tuesday. The victims, a boy and a girl, are being treated at Khamis Mushayt Hospital. A report prepared by the doctors who examined the two showed they had been subjected to severe beatings and burns. The children revealed that their stepmother also put hot chilly powder in their eyes after beating them.
As the father of the two children, the woman’s former husband had their legal custody after he divorced their mother.
In her complaint to the committee, the woman said she met with the children in a park accidentally and noticed that they carried marks of physical torture. She demanded the authorities to transfer the children to her and to investigate the torture.
The committee will submit the report to the authorities concerned for necessary action.
