The Kingdom called in the initiative for research addressing AIDS in the GCC. It also called on the pressing need to identify the structure by which newspapers are to address AIDS issues. More awareness programs to emphasis mother-child infections and youth protection was urged.
Saudi Arabia called for the initiative April after examining the percentage of AIDS victims in the region.
Assistant Deputy Minister of Health Dr. Ziad Maimash said the agreement would mark the lines by which the GCC would combat AIDS in the region.
“The goal is to call for more GCC cooperation and to keep the rate of AIDS low in the region,” he said.
From her part, Hind Al-Khatib the regional manager of the UN AIDS program in Middle East and North Africa (MENA) praised the initiative.
